June 2021 Meeting Early Achievers 4-H Club
The Early Achievers 4-H club’s June meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. by President Grant Movall. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Kiera H and Ben Pickhinke. Roll call was read by the Secretary Madelynn Horan. The question to roll call was: “Name something your dad or grandpa has taught you?” with 16 members present. Secretary Madelynn Horan read the minutes. Ben Pickhinke motioned to approve the minutes and Melany Horan seconded the motion, the motion was passed. Nora Pickhinke read the Treasurer's Report. Melany Horan motioned to approve the treasurer's report and Kiera Hartman seconded the motion, the motion was passed.
Old business: Madelynn and Melany Horan and Dean Carlson gave a flower planting and yard raking report to the club. Twelve members helped with these two projects on May 16th. Melany and Madelynn Horan gave a report on the tie blanket delivery to the Loring hospital, they told the club that the club made and donated four tie blankets. Our club helped set up and take down flags with the Early American Legion for Memorial Day. Robert Carlson, Antone Carlson, Dean Carlson, and Tracy Pickhinke gave a report about shopping for the Sac County 4-H Endowment Silent Auction movie basket and the 77 items our club donated to the State 4-H Council Foster Care Packs. Kiera Hartman reported to the club about the barn quilt she and her mom, Steph, designed and painted for our club to donate to the Sac County Fair Raise the Roof Fundraiser. Grant Movall reminded members to complete their YQCA.Org training in order to show livestock at the county fair. Brian Pickhinke and Christy Horan gave a RAGBRAI update to the club. We will help the town of Early sell drinks, etc. on July 25th from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Mason Wolf gave a Healthy Living Challenge report to the club, his update or advice to the club, was to drink more water.
New Business: Nathan Blum talked about baking cookies on June 16, 2021 for the Iowa 4-H Foundation Golf Tournament. Sac County Fair books and 4-H Important Summer Dates sheet were handed out to the club. Members will sign up fair projects at Achievement Days on June 27 & 28th. Members are encouraged to attend 4-H Summer Camps offered through the Sac County Extension Office. Mason Wolf motioned to adjourn the meeting, and Ben Pickhinke seconded the motion, the motion passed. The Pledge to the 4-H flag was lead by Zach M. and Mason Wolf.
After the meeting adjourned, two dads volunteered to pull our club in two parades: Schaller Popcorn Days on July 10th and Early Crossroads Days on July 17th. Members may meet at 9:40 a.m. both days to ride the club parade float.
Three members shared their Educational Presentations: Mason Wolf about Fishing, Ben Pickhinke about Tiling, and Nora Pickhinke about Drainage Tile. Following the meeting was Father-Member Kickball Game and a pork burger supper was hosted by the leaders and new members.

May 2021 Meeting Early Achievers 4-H Club
The Early Achievers 4-H Club May 2nd Meeting was called to order at 4:04 p.m. by the President Grant Movall. The Pledge to the American flag was led by Kiera Hartman, Logan Pickhinke, and Logan Blum. Roll Call was read by Madelynn Horan. Roll call was, “Name your favorite Food that your Mom Cooks or Bakes,” with 24 members and their moms present. The minutes were read by the Secretary Madelynn Horan. Ben Pickhinke made a motion to approve the minutes and Logan Blum seconded the motion. The motion was passed. The Treasurer’s report was read by the Treasurer Logan Pickhinke via Zoom. Alivia McPhail made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s report and Melany Horan seconded the motion. The motion was passed.
Old Business: Madelyn and Melany Horan gave a report to the club on their Tie Blanket Workshop that was held just before this meeting. They said that they had accomplished 4 kid blankets to donate to Loring Hospital and they had help from 12 members. Barb Determan asked for help from a few members that would be interested is re-painting the swing and the frame of the swing at the Methodist Church. Ben Pickhinke and Madelyn & Melany Horan talked to the club about Flower Planting the pots on Main Street, city park and south sign in Early, IA. Joseph Geottsch made a motion to purchase flowers for Flower Planting and Miranda McAleer seconded the motion. The motion was passed. Ross and Emma Mentzer reminded the members about helping the Early Legion with setting up Flags for Memorial Day. Grant Movall reminded members to complete YQCA training in order to show livestock animals at the fair. Members are reminded about registering their livestock ID tags on or before May 14, 2021. Miranda McAleer and Mason Wolf gave a Healthy Living update to the club, they talked about how gardening is exercise and healthy food. Christy Horan and Kari Pickhinke gave the club an update about helping with RAGBRAI in Early on July 25th.
New Business: Logan Blum made a motion to put together a Silent Auction Basket for the “Sac County 4-H endowment,” and the “Sac County Raise the Roof”. Ben Pickhinke seconded the motion. The motion was passed and the committee met after the club meeting. Kiera Hartman and Melany Horan made a motion to play Kickball for the June father-member meeting. Members were reminded about signing up for a time for Achievment Day from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Methodist Church on June 27, 2021 and June 28, 2021. Logan Blum and Logan Pickhinke gave a State 4-H Council update to the club, they need hygiene items for a foster care donation. Melany Horan motioned to give a donation for the foster care donation and Alivia seconded the motion. The motion was passed. Several members have signed up for Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and Animal Science Roundup a the end of June. Reminder the Sac County Fair will be July 27-31st. Entry day is on Tuesday, July 26th. Communications Day is on Wednesday, July 14th.
Joseph Geottsch motioned to adjourn the meeting and Miranda McAleer seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned. The Pledge to the 4-H flag was led by Ross Mentzer, Antone Carlson, and Ben Pickhinke.

April 2021 Meeting Early Achievers 4-H Club
The Early Achievers 4-H Club Meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m., by President Grant Movall. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Melany Horan and Katie Pickhinke. Roll Call was read by the Secretary Madelynn Horan, the question to Roll Call was “Name a 4-H project you would like to try,” with 15 members present. Madelynn Horan read the March minutes, and Ben Pickhinke motioned to approve the minutes with a second on the motion made by Mason Wolf, motion passed. The Treasurer’s report was read by Logan Pickhinke, Melany Horan motioned to approve the treasurer’s report and Ben Pickhinke seconded that motion, motion passed.
Old Business:Drew Blum gave a report on the March 26th club workshop. Activities included tie blankets that were made to be donated to Loring Hospital, woodworking box, pour painting on canvas, goal card writing and recreation games. Karen Blass attended the meeting to receive our tie blanket donation to Loring Hospital. Logan gave and Egg Hunt recap and the members shared how they felt the Easter Egg Hunt went. Christy Horan and Brian Pickhinke gave the club an update on RAGBRAI. Barb Determan talked to the club about the Valentine Dinner. She told the club that we would wait to Host the Valentine's dinner until next year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic Guidelines. Logan Pickhinke and Grant Movall reminded all members who are and or are planning to show livestock to complete YQCA.org Training/test. Mason Wolf gave the club a Healthy Living update. He told the club, members, and guests for us to all get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Barb Determan read off the State Awards Results to the club. Logan Blum talked to the club about collecting Pop Tabs for Jacy.
New Business:Madelynn and Melany Horan talked to the club members about hosting a tie blanket workshop. Nora motioned with a second from Melany to purchase more fleece for this project. Barb Determan and Tracy Pickhinke reminded members that livestock ID tags need to be registered and or completed before or by midnight on May 15, 2021. Emma and Ross Mentzer talked to the club about helping the Early American Legion with setting up flags for Memorial Day. Ben, Maddy and Melany would like to co-chair the Early Flower Planting this year.
Ben Pickhinke motioned to adjourn the meeting and Mason Wolf seconded the motion, motion was passed. The Pledge to the 4-H flag was led by Katie Pickhinke, Robert Carlson, and Drew Blum.

March 2021 Meeting Early Achievers 4-H Club
The Early Achievers 4-H Club March Meeting began with the club’s members, leaders, and parents delivering forty-one popcorn Goodie Bags to our elderly/ senior citizens in and around the Early community. The Early Achievers 4-H Club March 21, 2021 Meeting was called to order at 4:07 p.m. by Vic New member treat bottles: Antone, Robert, Melany, Alivia and Zack - Dean and Kiera e-President Drew Blum. The Pledge to the American flag was led by Ross Mentzer. Roll Call was read by the Secretary Madelynn Horan. The question for Roll Call was “Name something Green” with 17 members present. Madelynn Horan read the February minutes. Melany Horan motioned to approve the minutes and Joesph Goettsch seconded the motion, the motion passed. The Treasurer’s report was read by the Treasurer Logan Pickhinke. Joseph Goettsch made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s report and Mason Wolf seconded the motion, the motion passed.
Old Business: Members are reminded to complete the YQCA training in order to show livestock animals at the fair. Drew Blum reminded the members to pay their annual $10 dues to the Treasurer Logan Pickhinke. Tracy Pickhinke and Christy Horan talked to the members about the club’s workshop to be held on March 26, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Barb Determan wished the Best of Luck to Grant Movall and Logan Pickhinke as they prepare to do their State Award Interviews virtually on March 27, 2021. Drew Blum reminded the members about the Easter Egg Hunt on April 3rd. Instead of hiding eggs to exchange for goodies, this year we will just be hiding the goodies. Drew also told the members to wear their 4-H t-shirts or polos. Members should check their 4-H t-shirt and polo sizes and then let Jennifer Movall know if you need a bigger size. Barb Determan talked to the members about helping with cleaning up the Garden at the Methodist Church, she asked that the members watch their text messages for a date and time to help clean up the Garden. Christy Horan talked to the club about RAGBRAI.
New Business: Toni McAleer talked to the club about Relay for Life, we are waiting for more information. Miranda McAleer gave a Healthy Living update to the club, she talked about a healthy snack, Strawberry Parfit. New members received new water bottles and treats from the Extension Office. The 4-H Theme this year is “Quest to Be Your Best”
Joseph Goettsch made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 4:38 p.m. and Miranda McAleer seconded the motion, the motion was passed. The Pledge to the 4-H flag was led by Lilly Wolf and Robert Carlson.

February 2021 Meeting Early Achievers 4-H Club
The Early Achievers 4-H Club Meeting was called to order at 1:03 P.M. by the President Grant Movall at Ida Bowl in Ida Grove. The Pledge to the American flag was led by Drew Blum, Dean Carlson, and Mason Wolf. The club secretary, Madelyn Horan read the Roll Call, the question was ‘What is your favorite singing group or song?’ Nineteen members were present who also introduced their families. Madelyn Horan read the January secretary minutes. Joseph Goettsch motioned to approve the minutes with a second on the motion by Mason Wolf, the motion passed. Logan Pickhinke read the treasurer’s report. Melany Horan motioned to approve the treasurer’s report, and a second on the motion made by Mason Wolf, the motion was passed.
Old Business: Christy Horan, gave the club an update on theEarly ice rink flooding. Thank you to the City of Early and the Early Fire Department for getting this going. President Grant Movall reminded the members to turn their dues into the Treasurer Logan Pickhinke. Miranda, Melany and younger members gave a report to the club about the February 26th Sac County junior ‘lock-in luggage’ and Zoom. Grant Movall reminded members to ask Steph Erplding at ISU extension for a coupon code for the YQCA training, in order to show livestock at the fair. Logan Pickhinke and Grant Movall talked to the club about Iowa Legislative Insider they attended virtually on Feb. 17th. Grant Movall reminded members to go home and check their 4-H t-shirts and to let Jennifer Movall know if anyone needs a different size 4-H t-shirt. Grant Movall informed the club members about the Easter Egg Hunt. This would take place at the Early Middle School, on April 3, 2021 at 10:00 A.M.. Members will hide eggs at 9 A.M. Joseph Geottsch made the motion to ask for donations to help fund the Easter Egg Hunt, with a second on the motion made by Ben Pickhinke, the motion passed. The Club Workshop will be held Friday, March 26th from 6-8:30 P.M.
New Business: Tracy Pickhinke asked the club about purchasing two recycling containers for the Sac County Fairgrounds. Logan Pickhinke made the motion to buy two recycling containers for the Sac County Fairgrounds and Joe G. seconded the motion, the motion passed. Christy Horan talked to the club about possibly helping out with a concession stand for RAGBRAI this summer. RAGBRI will be coming through Early on Sunday, July 25th and is a good opportunity for our club to raise money. Mason made a motion for the club to participate, Ben Pickhinke seconded the motion. Ben Pickhinke motioned to pay $10.00 per member for 4-H’ers for the 4-H campaign, with a second on the motion made by Logan Blum. The Early Achievers challenge the rest of the clubs in Sac County to match their donation. Miranda McAleer gave a Healthy Living update to the club. She informed the club that a person can burn 150-300 calories per hour of bowling. Barb presented the club with a Citizenship opportunity. The Early United Methodist church is looking for volunteers to help clean up the church’s garden. Ben Pickhinke motioned to Adjourn the Meeting at 1:56 p.m., and Mason Wolf seconded the motion, the motion was passed. The Pledge to the 4-H flag was led by Izabelle Steffen, and Alivia McPhail. Joe Goettsch gave a presentation on 4-Wheelers and ATVs and Miranda and Izzy presented about Girl Scout Cookies. The Early Achievers Family Fun Outing was held after the meeting at Ida Bowl.

January 2021 Meeting Early Achievers 4-H Club
Before the January 31st Early Achievers 4-H club meeting was called to order, Jennifer Movall installed the 2020-21 Club Officers. I am proud to report the following positions and officers. Our new Club President is Grant Movall. Vice-President will be Drew Blum. The Treasurer of our Club will now be Logan Pickhinke and the newly elected Madelyn Horan will serve as our Club Secretary. Reporter is Ben Pickhinke. Photographers are Katie Pickhinke and Nora Pickhinke. Public Relations Chairperson is RyAnne Steffen. Citizenship Committee Chair is Eryn Schmitt with Citizenship committee members Izabelle Steffen, Emma Mentzer, and Lauren Schmitt. Healthy Living Officers are Miranda McAleer and Mason Wolf. Junior Leaders are Logan Blum and Eryn Schmitt.
The Early Achievers 4-H club meeting was called to order at 4:18 p.m. by President Grant Movall. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Izabelle Steffen, Robert Carlson, and Emma Mentzer. Roll call was read by the Secretary Madelyn Horan, and everyone was asked to ‘Name a fun idea for our Club’s Family Fun night’, with 10 members present and 4 members present via Zoom. Some ideas were shared about what to do for a family fun event and Tracy extended an invite to all of us and our families to attend a fun family event on February 28th at the Ida Grove Bowling Alley, for a club meeting at 1:00 pm and bowling and food to follow. We anticipate many of members and families will attend as it has been well attended in the past. Tracy shared the food options to be thinking about. Madelyn Horan read the December secretary’s minutes. Melany motioned to approve the minutes with a second from Logan P. Motion passed. Logan Pickhinke read the Treasurer’s Report, and Joseph Geottsch motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report and RyAnne Steffen seconded the motion, the motion passed. Maddy read several thank you notes sent to the club.
Old Business: Christy Horan gave the 4-H club an update on the Ice Rink Flooding. Christy also updated the club on Operation Christmas Meal. Twenty-four pork loins along with sides were donated to the Early Food Pantry. Tracy Pickhinke reminded everyone to pay their dues to the Treasurer, and to enroll 4-honline.com. Tracy Pickhinke, talked to the members about the upcoming fair in July. She reminded us that if you plan on showing livestock at the fair, you need to complete YQCA Training. She promoted us doing this over the next couple of weeks while the weather is supposed to be very cold. She also reminded us to ask Steph at the Extension office, for a coupon to complete the training. 4-H Awards Event was virtual, so 4-H Awards were handed out. The Early Achievers completed 15 record books! Great job!
New Business: A committee was formed to plan the Family Fun Outing. Committee members including Joe, Miranda, Maddy, Melany and Izzy met after the meeting to start planning. We moved the Goodie Bag delivery to March due to Covid-19. Miranda McAleer gave a Healthy Living update to the Club. The Club talked about the Easter Egg Hunt, which will take place at the Middle School in Early on April 3, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. Committee members include: Logan P, Grant, Drew, RyAnne, Robert, Melany, Maddy, Miranda, and Izzy.
Opportunities for Youth: Junior “Lock-in Luggage” for grades 4 - 6 is set up for Feb. 26th via a virtual meeting. County Council members will be putting together activity crates that will be delivered before this date. Be sure to check out the Ice Fishing Clinic youtube video that has been posted to the Early Achievers Facebook page. Logan P. spoke briefly about this year’s Animal Science Round-up/State Conference that will take place June 29th. Registration is open April 1st to 8-12th graders. Be sure to download the Sac County 4-H app to stay up to date with 4-H information and monthly newsletters.

December 2020 Meeting Early Achievers 4-H Club
The Early Achievers 4-H Club December meeting was called to order at 4:05 on December 6, 2020 via zoom by President Grant Movall. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Grant Movall, Antone Carlson, and Kaiden Khamvilay.
Roll Call was called by the Secretary Madelynn Horan ‘Name your favorite Christmas goodie’ with 17 members responding. Joe Goettsch motioned to approve the secretary’s minutes and Melany Horan seconded the motion. Logan Pickhinke gave the treasurer’s report. Zack motioned to approve the treasurer’s report, and Miranda McAleer seconded the motion.
Old Business: Joe Goettsch and Christy Horan gave the club an update on the Early Ice Rink Preparation. Jennifer Movall gave members a fundraiser update. Miranda and Toni McAleer talked to the club more about holiday helping opportunities. The Early Achievers donated 148 items to the Early Food Pantry, 202 items to the Early United Methodist Little Food Pantry, as well as 10 PJ’s and 10 blankets to the Schaller-Crestland Toy Drive. Grant Movall reminded members to re-enroll online and pay their dues to the Treasurer at the next in-person meeting. Logan Pickhinke gave the club a State 4-H council update about food donations.
New Business: Our club members learned about Operation Christmas Meal Ignite the Spirit Program $250 grant we received to help feed those in need. We have also been given 24 pork loins and will purchase the sides and dessert for those in need. Members who wished to help out were asked to stay after the Zoom meeting to plan the sides and find a time to go shopping for it all. Tracy also asked for any volunteers to help pass out these meals which will be done on Monday, December 21.
Tracy Pickhinke reminded members about YQCA livestock testing and the January 2nd Beef Weigh-in at Harold Peyton’s Farm. Miranda and Toni McAleer gave the club a healthy living challenge update about fitness apps. Tracy Pickhinke talked to High School members about applying for State Recognition. She told members it was an excellent opportunity and we should consider applying for State Project Awards, State 4-H Council, and National Trips before February 1st. No decisions have been made regarding the February Valentine Dinner.
Other opportunities members can sign up for are STEM Survival kits and 4-H Camera Corps. There is more information on our Facebook page.

Madelynn and Melany Horan led our joke telling recreation after the Zoom meeting. Many 4-Hers shared jokes; some were funny and some made us laugh because we didn’t get the joke.

November 2020 Meeting Early Achievers 4-H Club
The Early Achievers November 4-H meeting was called to order by Grant Movall (our new president), at 3:00 p.m. on November 15, 2020 by via Zoom. The pledge to the American Flag was led by Nora Pickhinke and Zack McPhail. Roll call was led by Maddy Horan (secretary), with 16 members responding to “What is your Favorite Hobby?” Logan Pickhinke gave the treasurer’s report.
Old Business: Tracy Pickhinke reminded members about Sac County Awards Night. Jennifer Movall reminded members about their fundraising order pick-up. Grant Movall asked the members to keep collecting ‘Pop Tabs for Jacey’, and Nora Pickhinke decided to start collecting pop tabs at the RV Middle School. Members are reminded to complete their online enrollment on 4honline.
New Business: Christy Horan talked to the members about sweeping for the ice rink preparation. Tracy Pickhinke and Christy Horan talked to members about how goodie bag deliveries would look like this year due to covid-19. Members decided they wanted to donate food and hygiene items as well as pajamas to local church food pantries for our holiday club activities this year. Miranda McAleer reported about chia seeds being a healthy food option in smoothies. Logan Blum gave the club an update on the State 4-H Council Food Drive. If each county in Iowa collects 100 items, 10,000 non-perishable foods could be donated. Donations can be dropped off at the school or the Sac County Extension Office.
The pledge to the 4-H Flag was led by Drew Blum. Logan Blum motioned to adjourned the meeting and Ben Pickhinke seconded, the meeting was then adjourned. Katie Pickhinke led a scavenger hunt recreation activity for the club at the end of the Zoom meeting.
The next Early Achievers 4-H Club Meeting will be on December 6, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.

October 2020 Meeting Early Achievers 4-H Club
The Early Achievers October meeting was called to order at 4:07 pm. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Eryn Schmidt, Alivia McPhail, and Melany Horan. Roll call was “Name a community service project we should do to help others” with 21 members present. Madelyn Horan read the September minutes, Ross Mentzer motioned to approve the minutes and Joe Goettsch seconded motion passed. Eryn Schmidt motioned to approve the treasurer’s report, and Joe Goettsch seconded the motion.
Our club held 2020-21 officer elections: President - Grant Movall, Vice-president - Drew Blum, Secretary - Madelynn Horan, Treasurer- Logan Pickhinke, Reporter - Ben Pickhinke, Photographers - Katie Pickhinke and Nora Pickhinke, Public Relations - RyAnne Steffen, Citizenship Committee Chair - Eryn Schmitt, Citizenship Committee - Izabelle Steffen, Emma Mentzer, and Lauren Schmitt, Healthy Living Officers - Miranda McAleer and Mason Wolf, and Junior Leaders- Logan Blum and Eryn Schmitt.
Old business: Madelyn Horan gave a 4-H week recap to the club, she talked about wearing green on Wednesday to celebrate. Madelyn Horan also talked about the Ida-Sac Roller Skating party in Ida Grove. We had nine members help with window decorating and six members to clean the windows to celebrate National 4-H week. Jamie Blum talked to the members about the club fundraiser. The fundraiser will look similar to last year’s fundraiser with cookies, soups, pies, crisps and pans.
New Business: Joe Goettsch motioned to make and donate three blankets to Loring Hospital, and Katherine Pickhinke seconded the motion.
The meeting was adjourned. The 4-H pledge was led by Nora Pickhinke and Madelyn Horan. Recreation was launching rockets that were designed and created by members. Logan and Drew Blum hosted pizza dinner for the club.

September 2020 Meeting Early Achievers 4-H Club
The Early Achievers September 20, 2020 4-H Meeting was called to order at 4:07 p.m. by President Logan Pickhinke. The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Miranda McAleer and Lilly Wolf. Roll call was “Name a favorite pet you own or wish to own.” The most popular answers were: dog, cat, pig. We had 18 members present.
Madelyn Horan read the minutes, Ben Pickhinke motioned to approve the minutes and Joe Goettsch seconded the motion, motion passed. Ben Pickhinke motioned to approve the treasurer’s report and Joe Goettsch Seconded the motion, motion passed.
Old business: Our club decided to donate half of our Valentines Dinner profits to the Sac County Fair for their Raise the Roof campaign, and the other half of the profits went to Sac County Relay For Life. We presented these checks at this meeting. Our club was able to purchase and install two new basketball hoops for the Early Park through a grant our 4-H club received from the Early Community Development Corporation. Members reported their thoughts about Sac County Fair in-person vs. dropping off exhibits to be judged. Grant reported that our “summer fun” silent auction basket at the Sac County Fair brought $100.
New Business: Members were informed about National 4-H week activities for October 4-10th. Maddy and Nora volunteered to co-chair the window decoration committee. Everyone should wear their 4-H shirts to school on Oct. 7. Record books are due to leaders by September 30th. County council applications are due September 20th.
The meeting was adjourned, and the pledge to the 4-H flag was led by Kaiden K. and Grant Movall. Maddy and Melany hosted dinner for the club. Logan Pickhinke gave a presentation on Pride of Iowa Tips.
